It was that terrible heartache that was wedged in between, as his heart was caught in the middle of a tug-of-war. It was an emotional struggle to forget the present past. As another tear fell, he then realized that whether, if he having those feelings for her did matter at all. In a mental fight to forget everything, he decided to settle it once and for all. screaming it all out.
As the sun continued to set in the now fading horizon, he took a deep breath of the cool evening air. Slowly, as he opened his eyes with his head tilted upwards, Corey set his gaze into the calm orange sky. The week that had gone by had been a wonderful one for him, the times that he had spent with her were still fresh in his memory. Now, she was "gone". Sometimes, he still couldn't bring himself to accept the fact that she only considered him a friend. As a cool gentle breeze blew by, he saw it. The vision, a flashback of the time when they spent by the sea. He remembered of how the sea breeze flowed through her hair, that soft smile and her eyes that sparkled each time they met his. Rudely being brought back to reality by his ringing phone, Corey answered it still in a daze. It was her! For that moment, his eyes brightened as he visualized her dimpled face that was dotted with a few freckles.
Suddenly he felt like he was on cloud nine, even a simple "hi" from her had taken his breath away. As they spoke, he felt that as if his pain and emotional battle that he had been experiencing was won. The sky was now dark, as Corey ended their call. The emotional struggle had disappeared, the pain had ceased and he felt the world at his feet. Maybe being just friends wasn't so bad at all. He smiled to himself as he got of the ledge of the roof. Pacing steadily across the warm concrete to the roof entrance, his phone rang again, this time it was louder. Trying to answer the phone, he jammed his finger repeatedly into the answer button, but still, nothing happened. It rang even louder still this time, for a moment in time, his world halted to a stop. The skies turned white and crumbled around him.
As sunlight flooded his pupils, he knew. It was just a dream. A dream that he wished he didn't have to wake up from. The ringing? It was the alarm on his phone.
